Step 1 The basic training
The basic training is given in 20 sessions spread over 10 days.
Do you already have proof of knowledge of lifting equipment? Do you already have experience of work on an offshore installation or do you have a TCVT certificate as operator of a mobile or tower crane?
If so you can follow the shortened basic training course of 15 sessions (in 5 or 8 days).
The basic training course is completed with a theory and practical test. If you pass these you will be awarded the provisional Certificate of Expertise - Crane Operator offshore.
Step 2 Practical training on shore
When you have completed your basic training course successfully you may start the practical training course. You will then gain 20 hours lifting experience during the 5-day course. We use our unique offshore boat simulator for this.
Step 3 Offshore practical experience
Before you may take the examination you must complete at least 40 operating hours on an offshore crane working under supervision. These hours must be registered by the HMI. After this has been completed you can enter for the examination through us.
Step 4 Examination
VTC as NOGEPA accredited training centre conducts the examination. This takes place on an offshore installation. An essential part of this is loading and unloading supply vessels. If you pass this examination you will be awarded your Certificate of Expertise - Crane Operator.
Step 5 The compulsory refresher training
Your certificate remains valid for four years. After that you can follow the required refresher training course with us. This is a two-day training course in which all important aspects are covered both in theory and practice. We use our offshore boat simulator for this. The training is completed with a test.
